Spider Lifts To Overcome Challenges In Working Aloft Inside And Out

Airport, stadium, and arena maintenance projects create challenging scenarios for working aloft, be it reaching high lighting, HVAC systems on a second-floor mezzanine, or needing the capability to set up on a steep pedestrian ramp to clean facades or fixtures. TEUPEN’s Spider Lifts can be the right choice due to its exceptional work profile, self-leveling capability, and low floor loadings provide an efficient and non-disruptive solution to these challenges. In addition, its compact travel size and small footprint allow for the completion of work with very limited or no disruption to customer traffic flows.

Today, we would like to introduce LEO30Tplus – a popular spider lift that has been awarded for product innovation and is ideal for tackling difficult-to-reach areas such as unusually shaped facades, glass atriums, and other indoor and outdoor open spaces.

Teupen LEO30Tplus – Product Innovation (MEWPs over 20 feet~ 6m) by ALH Award winner

“It is a huge factor that the boom sections auto-grease for maintenance. Working indoors through a double door with a capacity of 882 pounds (~400kg) at 98 feet (~30m) is extremely impressive” – TEUPEN North America says.

Known as the LEOTplus, this machine includes a radio remote control with a two-line display, which shows the fuel tank indicator, as well as platform capacity, live load while lifting (as an option), and the load limit shown as a percentage %. The radio remote control is also equipped with the start/stop device.

The standard features of the LEOTplus family are electric emergency lowering with the manufacturer’s 1-2-3 principle and a swivel function over narrow set outriggers.

The LEO’s cushioned, load-dispersing tracks and low surface loads relieve the impact of taking a 4.2 t machine, although comparatively light, onto the easily damaged substrates.

You can track the LEO over the mat without any worries about damage. The LEO30T exerts a surface load of less than 2.0 kN/m2 is below the modern floor design limit of 5.0 kN/m2.

Additional options include four different platform sizes, from 0.9m to 2m, a crane hook, and more safety devices among others.

LEO30Tplus is powered by a 21.6hp, Kubota diesel engine and comes standard with a 230V, 12,9 A alternating current electric motor for use indoors. There is also an option to order the unit with an 80V DC battery drive in lieu of the diesel engine.

Safe positioning even with little space: the multi-position stabilizer system permits to automatically set up the machine in confined areas and on slopes. It offers three different setup positions: both sides wide, one side wide, and one side narrow or both sides narrow. In terrain or over obstacles the stabilizers overcome a height difference of 1,20 m.

In the standard configuration, the LEO30Tplus is equipped with a hydraulically height- and width-adjustable track drive at a touch of a button. The narrow setting decreases the width of the machine; in the wide setting, it increases ground clearance and stability. Also, levelled driving alongside slopes is possible.

The advanced crawler chassis adjustment enables
to work in areas with limited access!

Lastly, self-centering boom profile and octagonal sections with castors guarantee smooth telescoping operations without sliding friction and minimal maintenance needs.

LEO30Tplus is the longstanding Flagship model of the Teupen line. It can meet every unique requirement of the job at height up to 30m which would never have been possible with traditional lifts. How to Choose The Best Man Lifts for Painting Work?

It is very common for painters nowadays to rent man lifts in terms of both efficiency and safety compared to accessing hard-to-reach points via a stairway, traditional scaffolding, or ladders. Painters have various types of jobs that they work on, including interior painting, exterior painting, and industrial painting. Many of these jobs require painting tall walls or at heights. Man lifts can be crucial for completing these jobs safely.

What Type of Man Lift is Best for Painters?

There is no a specific answer as to what man lift is the best fit for a painter. It is all dependent on personal preference and the individual needs of each specific project.

Articulating boom lifts, and telescopic boom lifts or spider (tracked) boom lifts are designed for reaching otherwise inaccessible heights due to long arms can be angled in many directions. They can lift and situate the painter directly in front of the painting area efficiently and safely.

Scissor lifts can also be used to paint from low to medium height because their large platform allows for multiple workers and plenty of tools. Scissor lifts can only extend straight up, so they need to be placed directly under the painting area. Operators will need to move them around or across the work zone to paint where they need. With a crawler scissor lift, you can operate over uneven, slopes, unfinished, or raw ground like dirt, grass, gravel, or sand. It is ideal for painters working on new construction zones where painting is required but the land is not fully developed and sloped.

No matter if you operate scissor lifts, articulating boom lifts, or telescopic boom lifts, you need to be trained before interior and exterior painting on an AWP. Among all the aerial lift hazards, falls are the most common and sometimes the most dangerous. Understanding is the key to preventing these types of accidents for all painters.

Replacing Interior Light Bulbs Solution to Know

Sometimes light bulb changes are extra complicated, so a spider lift may be your best efficient and economical solution for this challenging application where traditional lifts, scaffold or other alternatives are inadequate.

Building owners and facility managers place a high value on well-lit public spaces. In particular, large buildings in the education, healthcare, public and retail sectors are laid out to accommodate steady and large streams of visitors with the goal to create an airy and transparent environment that is friendly, accessible, and easy to navigate.  They typically do not have a good solution for replacing interior light bulbs at height with 3-story (11m) or higher atriums when they burn out. The TEUPEN Spider Lifts LEO Series is a preferable solution for changing Fluorescent, Halogen, or LED lights without causing collateral damage or interruption of processes.

Benefits of using spider lifts to change light bulbs
  • Compact size – fit through single & standard double doors
  • Light – Low ground pressure protects sensitive surfaces
  • Self-leveling, multi-position outrigger system permits to automatic set up of the machine in confined areas and on slopes
  • Hydraulically height- & width adjustable track system permits narrowing and lowering the machine for passing entrances or widening the track footprint for more ground clearance and traction for driving alongside slopes or in terrain
  • Dual power source available: A powerful and robust Petrol or Diesel Engine for outdoor use, electric motor or battery for silent and zero-emission work inside of buildings
  • “Fuzzy-logic control box/ system” provides the smoothest boom operation without jerky movements in the industry. The key element of the new station will be shown a new information system, complete with graphics that are easy to read even in direct sunlight

The clearly-arranged control allows safe and easy operation. To drive on tracks or to set up using the stabilizer function, the cable/radio remote control comes in handy as the operator can move around the machine to get a better overview. Furthermore, on the control panel, an interactive display shows all available boom functions, safety information and allows error analysis.

Which model is suitable for your job?

To decide which model works best for your job, you should determine the factual problems of your facility. Here’s a look at the most important terms to identify the need:

Who?
  • Who will use the equipment?
  • How many people will be on the platform at once?
  • Will they need operator or familiarization training?
What?
  • What kind of work will be performed?
  • What are you lifting, and how much does it weigh?
  • What are the obstacles on the worksite?
  • Are there unusual work conditions or multiple shifts?
  • What is your power source preference?
Where?
  • Where will the equipment be used?
  • Are you working on a single site or multiple sites?
  • Is the work indoors, outdoors, or a combination?
  • What site characteristics influence the lift’s use?
  • Do you need to drive up or down a ramp?
  • Do you need doorway access? Single, double, or larger?
  • Is the ground level?
  • Is there a slab, concrete, or asphalt floor?
  • Will you have narrow or congested access?
  • Is it a caustic or hazardous environment?
  • Will fuel be readily available?
  • Is there access to electricity on-site?
How?
  • How will the equipment be used?
  • How high do you need to reach or work?
  • How much outreach is needed?
  • How much weight do you need to lift?
  • How will you transport the equipment?
When?
  • When will the equipment be used?
  • For how long?

In buildings with multiple usage and ever-changing events, there is always a time plan to be kept – therefore a flexible and versatile aerial lift solution is so important. Asking our expert at Mayon Machinery before making a hiring/purchasing decision will help ensure you find the best spider lift for replacing interior light bulbs.

Why are spider lifts becoming so popular?

With its rubber non-marking tracks, variable widths, leveling capability, and multiple power sources, you might be forgiven for thinking that the spider lift is a ‘jack of all trades’ platform, suggesting that it only does everything adequately but this could not be farther from the truth and is more than a little unfair as the spider lift is actually the best machine for so many applications and apart from the needs of its outriggers, has very few downsides.

Often the main problem for many mobile work platforms is getting close to the point of work. The spider lift’s compact dimensions and low weight not only help make it easier to transport –  with models up to about 50 meters able to be towed behind a 4×4 on a standard equipment trailer – but it also means that it is also able to travel down narrow aisles or passageways, through standard doors, up and down stairs and steep inclines and can cross some of the roughest terrains. And then once in position, the outriggers can level the machine up even on very significant slopes. One of the spider lift’s few downsides is that while it can drive into very tight situations, it does need considerable space to deploy its legs, although models with variable leg positions help with this. Spider lifts are also among the first aerial work platforms to incorporate lithium-ion battery power, often in conjunction with an internal combustion engine to create a type of hybrid machine.

When working indoors their relatively low weight and crawler undercarriage results in a low ground bearing pressure and the non-marking tracks allows them to operate without damaging delicate floors or surfaces. This go-anywhere ability means that the spider lift is becoming the platform of choice for a number of applications from window installation to bridge inspection and tree care, particularly with local authorities and public utilities.
